Woman in winter scene

Winter Skin

As the weather becomes increasingly colder, our skin becomes more susceptible to dryness. Harsh winds and cold temperatures are not the only things you need to be aware of. Putting on the heating so you’re nice and cosy isn’t great for your skin either. If you’re searching for ways to protect skin in the winter months, here are a few effective tips for you to try..

Hydrate

Your skin needs moisture all year round, especially in the cooler weather. By hydrating your complexion and body with a nourishing moisturising you’ll soften and smooth your skin, locking in moisture to prevent dehydration. Even if you have oily skin, you need to use a daily moisturiser.

Avoid hot water

Instead of showering or bathing in very hot water, use warm water instead. Very hot water can dehydrate your skin as it removes the natural oils. Ensure you moisturise after bathing as this will help to lock in moisture.

Don’t forget your hands

Your hands can become very dry and cracked in cold weather so wear gloves to protect them. Furthermore, try to wear gloves when participating in chores around the house as this will prevent the skin on your hands from becoming dry and damaged. Using a hydrating hand cream throughout the day will keep your hands soft and smooth.

Ditch makeup wipes

Cleansing wipes tend to contain alcohol which strips the skin of its natural oils, promoting dryness. Instead, use a creamy cleanser or a natural cleanser like coconut oil to replenish moisture and soothe your complexion.

Exfoliate

Exfoliating your skin, especially your lips will remove dead skin cells, alleviate cracking and help to promote luminosity. After exfoliation, apply a moisturiser or hydrating balm to soften.
